New Teacher Support & Development (NTSD) supports new teachers in their efforts to develop, through collaboration, reflection, and their own continuing education, into highly effective classroom practitioners.  An essential resource for both new and experienced educators, NTSD focuses on the structuring and management of classroom learning environments and the quality of instruction, insofar as they promote student achievement.  NTSD is committed to supporting and retaining OUSD faculties through its mentoring and professional development programs.
 
   
NTSD staff recruits and trains teacher coaches who provide critical on-site and field support for new teachers.  NTSD also offers other practical training and professional development opportunities for teachers and teacher coaches, and assists new teachers and coaches manage their professional responsibilities and navigate the requirements of state and federal programs related to their work.  
   
NTSD supports teacher recruitment, certification, induction, professional growth, and retention through the following programs:  
 
  •  BTSA Induction
  •  Intern Support
  •  Teach Tomorrow in Oakland
  •  Classroom Management
  •  Highly Qualified Teacher Support
  •  National Board Certification
 
NTSD also provides resources for teachers and site leaders:  
 
  •  Teachers Observing Teachers (TOTs): A Classroom Observation Program
  •  SOS: Support Solutions Hotline
  •  Make & Take Teacher Resource Center
  •  Coach/Mentor Training and Support
